Sculptures - Rememberance

Rememberance

Rememberance

The local parish council of Aveton Gifford, Devon, decided something needed to be done to brighten up the Remembrance garden. Gloria Loring offered to sculpt an angel and submitted drawings to this affect, these were accepted.

A year later the angel was ready, but during this time the resident minister had been transferred to another diocese, and the new minister not happy with the femine form of the angel asked if the artist could remove the breasts. As this was not acceptable the angel was mounted on a pillar by the roadside next to the church. A short time later (1990) the angel was stolen.

The second angel of remembrance was cast ten years later and various parts remodelled.
